چکیده

INTRODUCTION: Developmental dysplasia/dislocation of the hip (DDH) is the most common post-natal skeletal abnormality, and occurs when the joint between the femoral head and the acetabulum is unstable or malformed, or when the femoral head is partially or completely dislocated from the acetabular cup [1]. It is widely acknowledged that conditions which cause or result in reduced movement in utero are contributing factors to the incidence and severity of DDH in infants [1]. However, the hypothesis that prenatal movement plays a role in normal development of the hip joint has not been tested using embryonic model systems. In this research, we investigate the effect of immobilization in chick embryos on hip joint morphogenesis and explore the potential for immobilized chick embryos to serve as a model system for pre natal and neo-natal onset DDH.

Reconstruction of the Acetabulum in Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip in Total Hip Replacement

Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) or congenital hip dysplasia (CDH) is the most prevalent developmental childhood hip disorder. It includes a wide spectrum of hip abnormalities ranging from dysplasia to subluxation and complete dislocation of the hip joint. The natural history of neglected DDH in adults is highly variable. The mean age of onset of symptoms is 34.5 years for dysplastic DD...

DDH Epidemiology Revisited: Do We Need New Strategies?

Background: Although the developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is well known to pediatric orthopedists, its etiology has still remained unknown and despite dedication of a vast majority of research, the results are still inadequate and confusing. The exact incidence of DDH and its relationship with known risk factors in Iran is still unknown. Here we represent the results of one year study o...

Immobilized chicks as a model system for early-onset developmental dysplasia of the hip.

We have almost no understanding of how our joints take on their range of distinctive shapes, despite the clinical relevance of joint morphogenesis to postnatal skeletal malformations such as developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). In this study, we investigate the role of spontaneous prenatal movements in joint morphogenesis using pharmacological immobilization of developing chicks, and asses...

Comparing the Quality of Life Before and After Total Hip Arthroplasty Operation in Patients With Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip

Purpose: Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) increases the risk of secondary degenerative changes and subsequent total hip arthroplasty. The postoperative quality of life in patients with DDH who have been born and grown with this disability and adapted to it during the life, is one of the most challenging issues. This study aimed to compare the quality of life of patients with DDH before ...

Assessment of Diagnostic Value of Single View Dynamic Technique in Diagnosis of Developmental Dysplasia of Hip: A Comparison with Static and Dynamic Ultrasond Techniques

Background: Developmental dysplasia of hip (DDH) is a common childhood disorder, and ultrasonography examination is routinely used for screening purposes. In this study, we aimed to evaluate a modified combined static and dynamic  ultrasound technique for the detection of DDH and to compare with the results of static and dynamic ultrasound techniques.    Methods:In this cross-sectional study...
